The WE1S Interpretation Protocol for topic models (currently in version 2.0) is implemented most functionally as a modular set of Qualtrics surveys with declared steps for observing and drawing conclusions from topic models, and then recording results through the survey. The survey modules are designed to be mixed-and-matched in sequence or in parallel depending on the needs of a particular research problem.
We make available below our Word .docx adaptations of our surveys because the live Qualtrics surveys are accessible only by WE1S developers using the Qualtrics platform through a UC Santa Barbara institutional license. And the Qualtrics QSF export/import files we also make available can only be deployed by at other institutions with their own access to the Qualtrics platform.)
These Word versions of the Interpretation Protocol modules exploit a customization of Word’s “document properties” fields (see this page for technical details) to duplicate the “running notes” functionality of the original Qualtrics surveys we created — i.e., notes that can be written in one location in the document and then reproduced later in live, editable form. (As in the case of our Qualtrics modules, the Word versions of our Interpretation Protocol modules are tailored with specific references to our project, but suggest how other users can extend and revise the paradigm for their own projects.)
The Word versions of our Interpretation Protocol modules are useful even for those with access to Qualtrics. The Word versions can be used for advance planning of research exercises. They can also be used to write collaborative drafts of responses to the Qualtrics surveys, including by members of a team not logged into the live Qualtrics survey (which can only be operated by one person or computer in a unique session.)
