California State University, Northridge, (CSUN) this week released its announcement of the campus’s participation in the WhatEvery1Says (WE1S) project funded by the Mellon Foundation. “There are time-honored narratives such as if you get a degree in the humanities you are going to work at Starbucks,” the news release quotes WE1S co-PI Scott Kleinman saying. “Politicians frequently dismiss the humanities because they can’t see how they contribute to the economy. Those perceptions of the value of the humanities are not borne out by the data. But what we need are the tools so we can effectively counter those misconceptions.” The full release includes more from an interview with Kleinman, who is Professor of English at CSUN and a specialist in Medieval literature as well as the digital humanities.
