WE1S Methods (old version)

To study its big-data collections of public discourse on the humanities in journalistic media and other sources, the WhatEvery1Says (WE1S) project uses “digital humanities” methods that draw on techniques of computational analysis shared with other computationally-assisted areas of study today such as “in silico” experimental science, the digital social sciences, data journalism, and data science.

Methods including topic modeling, word embedding, and other kinds of text analysis; and tools include open-source programs for pre-processing, processing, and visualizing textual data (coordinated in workflows of Jupyter data notebooks operating on the project’s database of materials).

See the following brief, plain-language explanation “cards” for quick introductions to WE1S’s methods (and related tools and software).
