Sean Gilleran is a PhD student in the history of science at the University of California Santa Barbara. His current research is about “personal” computing and the history of computers in the home and workplace from the 1970s to the 1990s. He has previously written about Carl Sagan and the connections between the transcendent popular scientific idea of the “cosmic perspective” and the American counterculture of the 1970s.
